登窯

Bizen 's outward simplicity is complicated and deep.

It was started around Bizen city in Okayama Pref. thousands years ago.
The area is surrounded by mountains and the tradition was passed down to younger generations in the region. Glaze and hand-painting are not used and it makes the best use of the beauty of clay's appeal.
It is baked for 2 weeks in a kiln, which is a highly regarded, traditional, thermally efficient kiln, and Japanese red pine is used as fuel, reaching a maximum temperature of 1250℃.
The dynamic flame and the ashes of the chopped pine tree creates magnificent patterns. Simple but mystical attracts a lot of people since early times.
